PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have open scholarships to play around with as they embark on the true offseason at the end of spring practices. Head coach Pat Narduzzi said his coaching staff will explore ways to fill those scholarships and the transfer portal will be one way they do.

The Panthers are hoping one of those players to fill an open spot is Markevious Brown, a former Ole Miss Rebel who spent two seasons in Oxford, Mississippi before entering the transfer portal. Narduzzi's staff extended an offer to Brown late this week.

Purdue, Indiana, Wisconsin, Western Kentucky and Boston College have extended offers since he entered the portal earlier this week.

Brown is a former blue-chip recruit from IMG Academy in Florida. He was rated as a four-star prospect by On3 and ESPN, while 247Sports and Rivals pegged him as a three-star prospect coming out of high school in the class of 2021. He was ranked as the No. 13 cornerback in the nation and the No. 35 player in Florida by ESPN. Brown was selected as a Sports Illustrated All-American candidate in high school and chose Ole Miss over Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Miami, among others.

He's appeared in 13 games over the course of his career, with 12 of them coming last season. In his short career, Brown's recorded 19 tackles, one for a loss and two passes defended.
