Pitt Transfer John Hugley Cancels Visit to West Virginia
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers forward John Hugley seemed to be seriously considering joining his old team's biggest rival this offseason after transferring out of the program this offseason, but things have taken a turn in his recruitment.
Hugley had been planning to visit Pitt's southern rival, West Virginia, this weekend, but both he and the program mutually agreed to cancel his trip to Morgantown, according to a report from Ethan Bock of The Portal Report and West Virginia Sports Now. This decision comes after the Mountaineers adding former Syracuse center Jesse Edwards through the portal.
Hugley still has plenty of high major suitors lined up. He took an official visit to Ole Miss this week and also visited Oklahoma and Georgia Tech earlier this spring. Hugley has reportedly garnered interest from Memphis, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, UCF, Penn State, Arkansas, Michigan, Oregon, Miami, Rutgers, Xavier, LSU, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Maryland, Wisconsin, Butler, Dayton, Ohio, Arizona State, Georgia and Duquesne, among others.
Hugley took a step back in his junior year after suffering a knee injury during the preseason. He averaged just eight points and 3.8 rebounds per game over just eight games this season, one year after averaging 14.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists on 47.1% shooting from the field. He was named an All-ACC Honorable Mention for his efforts at the end of the 2021-22 season.
