PITTSBURGH -- He gave his verbal commitment earlier this week and just days later, Rhode Island transfer Ishmael Leggett put it in writing. He is officially a Pitt Panther after signing his letter of intent.

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel cited Leggett's experience, leadership qualities and versatility as reasons why he is eager to get the first of his remaining two seasons of eligibility underway.

“Ishmael is a strong veteran guard with a balanced skill set,” Capel said. “He uses his strength and craftiness to get in the lane to create for himself and his teammates and has also shown the ability to be a weapon behind the three-point arc. His leadership and competitive spirit mirror the culture we are creating in this program, and we are looking forward to his arrival in Oakland.”

Leggett averaged 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game during the 2022-23 season. He was inefficient from 3-point range last season, but was forced to take a lot of shots for the injury-hampered Rams. Leggett scored in double-figures 28 times, including nine games with 20 or more points scored and a pair of 30-point efforts. He made seven threes and scored a career-best 34 points against Tulane in the Cayman Islands Classic.
