PITTSBURGH -- Jeff Capel and Pitt basketball have a new head strength and conditioning coach. Vincent Williams, who served as Director of Basketball performance at the University of Rhode Island last year, is the newest Pitt Panther coach. He replaces Gary Christopher, who had held the same position at Pitt since the Kevin Stallings era.

'Vince is highly respected in his field and has terrific experience at the NBA and collegiate levels,' Capel said. 'I was impressed with his full-scope knowledge of training, conditioning, sports science, nutrition and recovery, as well as his approach to helping each student-athlete reach their full performance potential.'

At Rhode Island, Williams worked with their men's basketball and golf teams in addition to the women's tennis team.

Prior to that stint with the Rams, Williams worked with the Washington Wizards and their G-League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go. As director of player preparation from 2018 to 2020, he oversaw in and offseason workouts, pre-draft preparation and Summer League training in addition to other duties. In that role, Williams worked with eight players who signed NBA contracts.

Williams also spent a year at Coppin State, where he oversaw training for the Eagles' men's and women's basketball programs.

He holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Towson and a master's degree in Applied Exercise Science/Strength and Conditioning from Concordia University Chicago, which he earned in the fall of 2021.
