PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are in the market for guards after losing their top four backcourt players to graduation this offseason. They'll bring in two talented players at that position from the high school ranks but are also looking for reinforcements from the transfer portal.

Rhode Island's Ishmael Leggett is a new name the coaching staff has added to their transfer portal recruiting board. The Panthers contacted Leggett late this week, according to a report from Houston Wilson of PantherLair.com.

Leggett, a 6'1 shooting guard from Washington, D.C., was one of the premier scorers in the Atlantic 10 this season, averaging 16.4 points per game on 43.6% shooting from 2-point range and 32% shooting from 3-point distance. He added 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game as well while making a career-high 84.5% of his free throws.

Leggett played some of his best games against high-major competition last season. He scored a career-high 34 points, had four assists, grabbed five rebounds and was 7-10 from 3-point range against Tulane, and averaged double-figure scoring and four rebounds per game against Power 6 teams.

Leggett is a former three-star recruit and the No. 4 player in the talent-rich city of Washington D.C. coming out of the class of 2020. Georgetown, Maryland, Syracuse and Virginia showed varying degrees of interest during the recruiting process but did not offer. DePaul, George Washington, Stony Brook and Towson were among the teams to extend offers then.
