PITTSBURGH -- Almost everything that could have broke the Pitt Panthers' way did on the final day of the regular season and as a result, they've climbed up onto the top line of seeds for the ACC Tournament.

With their win over N.C. State on Senior Night - and some help from the Wake Forest Demon Deacons - the Panthers moved up a spot from fifth to fourth in the ACC standings and will enter the conference tournament next week as the fourth seed.

Pitt trailed Clemson entering the final weekend of the regular season but, when Wake Forest downed the Tigers in Winston Salem, North Carolina, the Panthers moved up to fourth place and they locked down that spot by knocking off the Wolfpack, 81-73 at the Petersen Events Center.

As the fourth seed, Pitt has earned a double-bye in the ACC Tournament. Its first game is not until the third day of the tournament. Two games will determine their opponent at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday - Notre Dame vs. Georgia Tech at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and the winner of that game against Wake Forest at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Panthers could have climbed to the third seed if Georgia Tech knocked off Virginia but the Cavaliers held on for a 72-57 win at John Paul Jones Arena.

If they win their first game, top-seeded North Carolina awaits on the other side of the bracket, if they can beat the winner of Virginia Tech-Florida State.

The Panthers ended up having a smaller chance of landing a sure win, but they get some rest ahead of an ACC Tournament run and need to win just three games to win the whole thing.
