PITTSBURGH -- Bub Carrington once again made everything look easy again in just his second game as a Pitt Panther. The freshman point guard scored an efficient 18 points and dished out four assists while committing just one turnover - an impressive follow-up to his

But there was one thing to nitpick about Carrington's second game as a Panther and it was how he twice let his emotions break contain and nearly earn him an ejection.

Guarded by Armin Harried, Carrington blew past him for a layup and gave him an earful. The official thought he took it too far and assigned a technical at the 17:23 mark of the second half. Veterans Ishmael Leggett and Zack Austin had to come over to Carrington and talk him through some frustrations.

About four and a half minutes later, it looked like Carrington was seconds away from picking up a second technical and subsequent ejection, after making an and-1 jumper, but Guillermo Diaz Graham ran over to pull him away from another confrontation with a Binghamton player.

"I want my guys to show emotion," head coach Jeff Capel said. "We’ve just got to be smart about it. We can’t allow what other teams are doing to take us out of what we’re trying to do. So I thought it was great that [Guillermo] and the other guys went right away and grabbed Bub, because they knew that he was playing with a lot of emotion, just to share that emotion with us."

Leggett said he shared a similar sentiment with the young Carrington on the court and encouraged him to find the sweet spot with his competitive fire, which can fuel you or burn you if you're not careful.

"I just told him to be smart," Leggett said. "He’s a great player. He makes great plays a lot, so showing a little emotion is good, but just know when to do it and when not to do it. And talk to us, if anything."

Capel wasn't concerned with how Carrington let his emotions spill out in this game. He said that Carrington's matchup with Harried was a personal, friendly rivalry. The two grew up competing against one another in their hometown of Baltimore, Maryland and Carrington enjoyed getting the better of his old friend. Capel believes this will only help Carrington grow.

"He’s going to continue to learn from each experience," Capel said. "One of the things I love about he and Jaland [Lowe] - you can coach them hard and they want to learn. They really do. They’re gym rats. Same thing with Ish. So it’s been a good group, a really good group of guys to be around and to work with, because they really, really want to be good and all of these experiences will help us be that."
