PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have announced that freshman center Papa Amadou Kante will miss the 2023-24 season due to injury.

According to an official release from the Pitt program, Amadou Kante suffered a non-contact knee injury on Wednesday night during a workout.

"Papa is a terrific person with great spirit and a relentless work ethic. We feel for him to have this happen so early in his collegiate career. We have an outstanding medical and athletic training staff, and we know that Papa will attack the rehab and recovery process," said head coach Jeff Capel. "This will be a minor setback for a young man with a great future in our program."

Amadou Kante, a former Michigan commit, was a four-star recruit in Pitt's 2023 class. His absence will force the Panthers to lean heavily on the trio of Jorge Diaz Graham, Guillermo Diaz Graham and Federiko Federiko as all three enter their second year with the program.

The Panthers' depth at forward will also be tested as a result. Blake Hinson and High Point transfer Zach Austin are set to be factors as part of the frontcourt equation alongside William Jeffress, who is returning from a foot injury that sidelined him for the entire 2022-23 season.
