Pitt Records 300th Win At Petersen Events Center
PITTSBURGH -- With a 70-60 victory over Notre Dame this weekend, the Pitt Panthers have clinched a milestone victory in their home arena.
By beating the Fighting Irish, the Panthers earned a landmark win - their 300th all-time inside the friendly confines of the Petersen Events Center.
Pitt owned one of the best home-court advantages in all of college basketball when the Petersen Events Center. It became a house of horrors for everyone from the lowest of low-major teams to the top 10 and top 5 opponents that made the Big East the sport's best conference.
The Panthers' home-court advantage - and the overall quality of the program - had wanned with the departure of long-time head coach Jamie Dixon. After he left in 2016, Pitt held a home record of just 60-48 record in the six seasons that followed.
Pitt entered this season with a record of 291-86 all-time at the Petersen Events Center and has now won nine of 14 games at home during the 2023-24 season and the Panthers are 23-8 in this building over the past two seasons.
Jeff Capel's rebuild, which already yielded an NCAA Tournament berth last season, has also revived one of the better atmospheres in college basketball.
