PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers will have nine members of their latest recruiting class headed to the Steel City early to get a jump start on their college careers.

The nine Pitt recruits who will be on campus beginning in January will include defensive tackles Francis Brewu and Jashear Whittington, defensive ends Zachary Corothers and Sincere Edwards, offensive lineman Moritz Schmoranzer, linebacker Jeremiah Marcelin, defensive back Nigel Maynard, wide receiver Cameron Monteiro, running back Juelz Goff and quarterback Julian Dugger.

The arrival of Whittington, Brewu, Edwards and Corothers will be critical for a Pitt defensive line that has lost loads of experience and production over the past two seasons. Of those four players, three were rated as four-star prospects coming out of high school.

Maynard might also benefit greatly from heading north from Tennessee to Pittsburgh early. The Panthers lost their top three corners from a year ago and will host an open competition to fill their spots.

And for Monteiro, Goff, Dugger and Schmoranzer, there is a new system to learn with new offensive coordinator Kade Bell installed as of a week ago and they'll get to learn it alongside the rest of the team instead of playing catch-up in August.
