PITTSBURGH -- A three-point loss to Western Michigan was the punchline of just about every insult someone could hurl the Pitt Panthers' way in 2021. Their 11 wins and ACC Championship were qualified every time with "if they had just beaten the Broncos".

Safeties Brandon Hill and Erick Hallett had to take the brunt of the blame during that deflating loss. On the heels of an impressive road win against Tennessee, the Panthers' secondary struggled to contain the explosive Western Michigan passing attack.

That defeat held them back from greater heights, ones that they hope to reach again, and the Panthers are determined not to let a mistake-riddled and embarrassing loss like that happen again. Hill and Hallett said they're treating that game as a cautionary tale as they aim for the College Football Playoff and beyond.
