Pitt Adjusts Depth Chart to Start ACC Play
PITTSBURGH -- Notable names have come in and out of the No. 24 Pitt Panthers' injury report over the past couple of weeks, which has called for some shuffling in the depth chart as they prepare for the start of ACC play.
Most notably, but unsurprisingly, Israel Abanikanda is the definitive top tailback. He had been listed as a co-starters with Rodney Hammond, who has missed the past three games with a leg injury, ever since Week 2. Hammond is still listed as a co-backup alongside Vincent Davis and C'Bo Flemister
Matt Goncalves has been elevated to first-string at right tackle in an official capacity. Gabe Houy had been listed as the sole starter but was working his way back from an achilles injury and Goncalves has been manning the starting spot all season long. Houy has played limited snaps against Western Michigan and Rhode Island.
Starting tight end Gavin Bartholomew suffered an arm injury against Rhode Island, but is still listed in his normal first-string spot. Behind him, Karter Johnson and Kyi Wright are co-backups after Johnson made the jump up from the third team.
On defense, Deslin Alexandre and John Morgan are now co-starters at defensive end. Alexandre went down in the first half of the West Virginia game with a wrist injury and hasn't played since. Morgan assumed the starting job in his absence.
The Panthers are particularly thin at that position, with Dayon Hayes out for an extended, but unknown period of time and Nate Temple out for the season.
