Former Pitt DB Suffers Devastating Injury
PITTSBURGH -- One former Pitt Panthers defensive back is feared to have suffered a devastating, potentially season-ending injury during the Philadelphia Eagles' 34-28 win over the Minnesota Vikings this week.
Avonte Maddox, a standout cornerback for the Panthers from 2014 to 2017, has torn his pectoral muscle, per a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. He is reportedly seeking a second opinion, as the injury would end his season.
Maddox was drafted by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft after an outstanding career at Pitt in which he was a two-time All-ACC selection and helped lead the Panthers to massive wins over Penn State, then-No. 2 Miami and then-No.2 Clemson.
As a professional, he's built a wonderful role for himself as a slot corner in Philadelphia. Over the past six seasons, he's amassed 246 career tackles, four interceptions and 13 tackles for loss over 62 games and 37 starts.
