Pitt's Cal Adomitis Returns to Bengals
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers long snapper Cal Adomitis entered the 2024 offseason as a restricted free agent but the Cincinnati Bengals wanted to make sure he wouldn't go anywhere.
According to a report from ESPN's Ben Baby, the Bengals had tendered Adomitis, a stalwart long snapper for multiple seasons with the Panthers, essentially guaranteeing he will stick with the franchise that signed him as a rookie.
In tendering a player, an NFL franchise is giving a player two options - either sign with the team that tendered them or sign with another team - but to sign the tendered player, another organization would have to give up a valuable draft pick to the team that tendered him. This all but ensures the player stays with their current team.
Adomitis put together a decorated career at Pitt that included a first-team All-American selection by the American Football Coaches Association in 2021 and distinction as the Patrick Mannelly Award winner for best senior long snapper at the FBS level that same year. He played in and started each of his 64 career games dating back to 2017.
He signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent and had spent Week 1 on the practice squad. When his team lost their starting long snapper to injury, and lost a game partly because they used a backup tight end as their emergency long snapper, Adomitis was elevated to the active roster and a starting role, a job he's held ever since.
