PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panther Calijah Kancey's career in the NFL is off to a strong start and the 2023 first-round pick now has lofty expectations from his new team.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who took the former Pitt star with the 19th overall pick in this past spring's draft, listed Kancey as a starter at defensive tackle alongside former Pro Bowler Vita Vea. Another Panther drafted to the Bucs this spring, SirVocea Dennis, is listed as Lavonte David's backup at inside linebacker.

Kancey is likely not to play in Tampa Bay's preseason opener against the Steelers at the end of this week. He suffered a calf injury during the first week of training camp that is expected to sideline him for four weeks. That would still put him in line to be available well before the regular season opener against Minnesota on September 10.
