Former Pitt S Erick Hallett Impressing at Jaguars Training Camp
PITTSBURGH -- After the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him with the 208th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, former Pitt Panthers safety Erick Hallett has been impressing coaches with his play across positions in the defense.
The multi-year starter at Pitt, former All-ACC selection and 2021 ACC Championship game MVP has caught the eye of Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell, who hopes to get a better look at Hallett in the first preseason game of the year against the Cowboys this weekend.
"He's a guy that's a multiple player - he can play safety, nickel, he can play outside a little," Caldwell said. "So he's a guy that has flexibility and we're ready to use all his skills, whether it's playing safety or playing the nickel."
Veteran cornerback Tyson Campbell - a two-year starter in Jacksonville - is out with a concussion, opening up chances for Hallett and other young members of the Jacksonville secondary to get extended work in training camp and the preseason.
Hallett's been impressive so far, but Caldwell wants to see consistency in live game action.
"He's shown us that he can make plays on the ball," Caldwell said. "He's smart, can make adjustments and we want to see that continue."
