PITTSBURGH -- Erick Hallett had already been named a midseason All-American by the Athletic, Athlon Sports and Pro Football Network, but the Pitt Panthers' outstanding starting free safety is not yet done adding to his resume.

Hallett was the only defensive back from the ACC to make the list of 12 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame to the best defensive back in college football.

Hallett has developed a knack for finding the ball so far this season. He's created five turnovers - three interceptions and two fumble recoveries - and is Pro Football Focus' highest-graded coverage man in the slot. Hallett's also recorded 23 total tackles and two for loss during a season that puts him in contention for ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
