PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers had to fight hard to keep former four-star defensive lineman Sincere Edwards committed and now that he has signed with the program, they're eager to find his best fit along the defensive line.

Edwards said he has put on nearly 10 pounds since coming to Pittsburgh and he and his Pitt coaches have discussed the possibility of bumping inside to defensive tackle after spending his high school career as a defensive end.

“There’s a possibilty of me playing inside as well," Edwards said. "I’ve been putting on weight in the weight room so we’ll see when the spring comes where I’m at.”

Edwards arrived at Pitt weighing 238 pounds and has bulked up to 246 pounds since the beginning of his first semester in early January. He would still qualified as undersized for a defensive tackle, even for the Panthers, who tend to be flexible with smaller interior linemen. But if he keeps adding weight, Edwards could help them fill a void on the interior of the defense.

Pitt struggled to replace 2022 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Calijah Kancey after he was selected with the 19th overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2023 NFL Draft. Then they lost starters David Green, Tyler Bentley and Devin Danielson to graduation while Deandre Jules, a standout junior, opted to transfer.

As a junior at Wekiva High School, Edwards recorded 78 tackles (48 solo), 27 tackles for loss, 16 sacks and recovered two fumbles. He added 38 total tackles, five sacks, seven tackles for loss and a pass defended in 10 games during his senior season. Pitt was able to flip Edwards from his commitment to UCF and fend off some late pushes from other Power 5 programs to keep him a Panther.
