Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Pitt S Erick Hallett
PITTSBURGH -- Pitt Panthers safety Erick Hallett saved his best for last, putting on a senior season that vaulted him up into the NFL Draft. Hallett was selected in the sixth round with pick No. 208 by the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he'll join a young and dangerous team.
Like his running mate on the back end of the Pitt defense for the past two and a half seasons, Hallett took over a starting role when the unexpected mid-season opt-outs of Damar Hamlin and Paris Ford in 2020. Ever since, he's been a smart, steady presence for the Panthers at his field safety position.
Hallett earned All-ACC consideration twice as an honorable mention in 2021 and a second-teamer in 2022. In 2021, he earned ACC Championship Game MVP Honors after intercepting Sam Hartman twice and returning one for a touchdown in Pitt's 45-21 win over Wake Forest. In 2022, Hallett was named a second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America and a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the best safety in college football.
In 49 career games, Hallett amassed 170 total tackles, eight interceptions, 32 passes defended, four forced fumbles and four recovered fumbles.
