Pitt Lands Three on Senior Bowl Anniversary Team
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers were well-represented on the Senior Bowl's 75th Anniversary Team, which was released this week.
Pitt earned three selections - quarterback Dan Marino, running back Curtis Martin and defensive tackle Aaron Donald - to the distinguished group of all-time Senior Bowl participants, the most of any school. Miami, Alabama, Notre Dame, Florid State, Georgia and Southern Miss had two each.
Marino finished his career as the Panthers' all-time leading passer with 8,597 yards and ranks fifth in school history in total yards. After a 17-year career in which he threw for more than 60,000 yards and 420 touchdowns while making three all-pro teams and wining the 1984 MVP award, Marino was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Martin, another Hall of Famer, amassed 3,392 total yards and 17 touchdowns before the New England Patriots drafted him with the 74th overall pick of the 1995 Draft. He went on to win Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1995, make five Pro Bowls, an All-Pro team and lead the league in rushing during the 2004 season before his 2012 induction to the Hall of Fame.
Donald is the only one of these three to not yet be inducted into the Hall of Fame but that will change quickly after he retires. After a decorated career at Pitt in which he won the Lombardi Award, Bednarik Award, Nagurski Trophy, Outland Trophy and ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Donald was selected with the 13th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft and has dominated the league ever since. In eight full seasons, he's made eight Pro Bowls, seven All-Pro teams, won three Defensive Players of the Year awards and led the league in tackles for loss twice.
