PITTSBURGH -- Pitt Panthers fans knew after his college debut that they had something special in freshman point guard Bub Carrington. Now the rest of college basketball is catching up with the hype.

CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein gave the young Pitt standout a shoutout on Twitter following the Panthers' impressive win over Florida Gulf Coast, in which Carrington played a massive role.

After a 19-point, four-rebound, seven-assist performance against the Eagles, Carrington is now averaging 18.3 points, seven assists, and 6.3 rebounds per contest while making 56% of his field goal attempts and 50% of his 3-pointers. He earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for his strong first two games prior to taking the floor against Florida Gulf Coast.

The Panthers lost their entire backcourt and four of their top five leading scorers from a team that went to the NCAA Tournament a year ago, but head coach Jeff Capel has found capable replacements in Carrington and transfer Ishmael Leggett and freshman Jaland Lowe, all of whom have been instrumental to Pitt's 3-0 start.
