PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have suffered a significant loss along the defensive line as they begin just their second week of spring practices.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi announced following practice No. 4 of the spring that redshirt senior defensive end Nate Temple had suffered a leg injury that would keep him sidelined for all of the 2024 season, effectively ending his career as a Panther.

Temple played in 11 games and started eight in 2023. He recorded 26 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He appeared in 26 total games as a Panther on special teams and at defensive end.

Temple entered the transfer portal at the conclusion of the 2023 season but ended up exiting the portal and returning to Pittsburgh. Narduzzi said that isn't common and it's not something he wants players to make a habit of, but he made an exception for Temple because of the quality of his leadership skills.

The Panthers will lean on the likes of Dayon Hayes, Nate Matlack, Jimmy Scott,
