PITTSBURGH -- It's taken former Pitt Panthers receiver Maurice Ffrench a couple of seasons to find his footing in professional football but it appears he's found a home in the Canadian Football League.

His Edmonton Elks lost for the fourth time in as many weeks, falling 26-7 at the hands of the Ottowa Redblacks, but Ffrench broke out in his first game action in the CFL. He led the team in receptions and yards and scored the Elks' lone touchdown of the game on a three-yard pass from former West Virginia quarterback Jarett Doege.

Ffrench ended his night with six receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown, all of those being his first entry into the box score this season and likely not his last for the lowly Elks, who have shuffled their lineups frequently, looking for something to turn their sluggish start around.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Ffrench as an undrafted free agent in 2020 after he left Pitt and waived him before re-signing him to the practice squad. Ffrench spent a year on the practice squad and was released again the following season. The Los Angeles Chargers picked him up two days after and he appeared in three games as a receiver and kick returner.

As a Panther, Ffrench grew from two-way reserve to leading receiver by his senior season. He capped his career at Pitt with a 96-reception, 850-yard and four-touchdown campaign in 2019. Those 96 receptions set a Pitt record for catches in a season and that marks ranks second in school history today. He earned All-ACC honorable mention honors as a specialist in 2018 after amassing 547 kick return yards - the third-most in the conference - and two scores.
