PITTSBURGH -- Health hung over the Pitt Panthers all week as they prepared for their first road trip of the season and no one's status was more important than that of their quarterbacks. After starter Kedon Slovis and backup Nick Patti both sustained injuries in their last game against Tennessee, redshirt freshman Nate Yarnell appears to have taken on the role of starter.

Yarnell took reps with the Pitt starters in warmups while Slovis worked with the second and third-teamers. Yarnell was injured for all of his senior season in high school and redshirted last year. He didn't go through spring practices, meaning the last time he played live football was 2019.

Slovis left the Tennessee game and did not return after going down with an undisclosed injury. Patti stayed in the game despite hurting his ankle on a failed run to the endzone in the fourth quarter.
