Pitt Releases New Depth Chart for North Carolina Game
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have reintroduced some of their preseason competitions to the depth chart as they try to battle back from consecutive losses.
Pitt now has one new starter on the back end of the defense, two co-starters on the offensive line and another set of co-starters on special teams heading into the ACC opener against North Carolina this weekend.
First of all, the Panthers cemented Donovan McMillon as their starting safety, which has proved to be a good move. He helped lead a resurgent second-half effort against Cincinnati in Week 2 and against West Virginia's ground-and-pound offensive approach, McMillon racked up a game-high 18 punishing tackles.
McMillon was listed as a backup heading into the West Virginia game but made his first career start in the Backyard Brawl, replacing P.J. O'Brien.
Pitt also reintroduced a competition at right guard, with Jason Collier Jr. and B.J. Williams listed as co-starters. Collier started the Wofford game, Williams started the following week and against West Virginia, Collier returned to the lineup after Williams suffered an injury in practice.
And finally, Pitt will have A.J. Woods and Kenny Johnson share kick-return duties. Woods became the top kick-returner in Week 2, taking that mantle from Bub Means, and he and Johnson both fielded kicks during the Backyard Brawl.
