Pitt QB Battle Will Take Another Step at Spring Game
PITTSBURGH -- Filling the shoes of Heisman Trophy finalist Kenny Pickett won’t be an easy task, but the Pitt Panthers have a pair of quarterbacks hoping to be the next man up.
Seniors Kedon Slovis and Nick Patti will face off against one another in the Panthers’ Spring Game on Saturday, adding a new level to the battle for starting quarterback.
Head Coach Pat Narduzzi has already praised the two for being great leaders but now wants to see what they can do in game situations.
The two aren’t expected to play much on Saturday, around 20 snaps each, depending on the coordinators’ discretion, but that should be plenty for Narduzzi to get a good look at his guys.
Narduzzi said that he wants to “see the quarterbacks throw the ball. And when they do, throw it accurately. Put it where it’s easy to catch and get us in the right play.”
Beyond being skilled at the position, Narduzzi will be watching how Slovis and Patti play as leaders to their teams.
From the huddles to the plays, the two should be able to keep the unforced errors to a minimum and make the right plays.
Narduzzi has said before that there are going to be battles at many positions across the Panthers lineup, but the spot for starting quarterback might be the most contested.
