PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers will retain at least one member of their 2023 coaching staff as the page turns to 2024.

According to a report from FootballScoop.com, Pitt wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Tiquan Underwood was offered a new position with Syracuse under first-year head coach Fran Brown and turned it down to stay in Pittsburgh. Multiple local reporters have confirmed the original report.

Under Underwood's leadership, Jared Wayne surpassed the 1,000 receiving yard mark for the first time in his career and went on to sign an undrafted free agent contract with the Houston Texans.

Underwood has overseen the development of senior wideout Bub Means, who is headed for the NFL draft after spending two seasons with the Panthers and amassing 1,122 yards and eight touchdowns during his time in blue and gold.

He's done a fine job recruiting, landing Konata Mumpfield and Daejon Reynolds out of the transfer portal and a quartet of talented freshmen in the last recruiting cycle.

Underwood, a former Rutgers standout in college, was drafted in the seventh round of the 2009 draft. He played for five seasons with four different NFL squads before turning to coaching. He's made stops at Lafayette, the Miami Dolphins and Rutgers before coming to Pitt.
