Early Win Total Line for Pitt Released
PITTSBURGH -- Football season is still seven months away but oddsmakers are already setting win total lines. 247Sports took an early stab at the ACC's win totals for the 2023 season and staff writer Grant Hughes is not optimistic about the Pitt Panthers' chances of improving on their success in 2022.
Hughes has the line for the Panthers set at 7.5 wins. He thinks a difficult non-conference schedule combined with the loss of Calijah Kancey and Israel Abanikanda will not be kind to them.
"Pitt lost arguably its best offensive and defensive player this offseason in running back Israel Abanikanda and defensive lineman Calijah Kancey," Hughes wrote. "The Panthers also have one of the toughest schedules in the ACC this year, facing new Big 12 entry Cincinnati in Week 2 and West Virginia the following week. Later road games against Wake Forest, Notre Dame and Duke could make or break the Panthers’ shot at its sixth-straight, bowl-eligible season under coach Pat Narduzzi. The good news is that Jurkovec should be an improvement over Kedon Slovis behind an offensive line that returns fifth-year seniors Jake Kradel and Blake Zubovic."
Their line is middle of the pack among other ACC squads. Seven of the conference's 14 teams have lower projected win totals, according to Hughes. Louisville's line was at 7.5 as well. Miami (eight), NC State (8.5), North Carolina (8.5), Florida State (10.5) and Clemson (10.5) are the teams with higher projected win totals.
