Pitt Football: Damar Hamlin Responds to Criticism of Super Bowl Outfit
PITTSBURGH -- Over the weekend, former Pitt Panthers safety Damar Hamlin caught some criticism for wearing a jacket that some believed was an offensive picture of Jesus during the Super Bowl. The jacket had an abstract depiction of Jesus on the back and the word "Eternal" spelled out with each letter in a different font. Hamlin later apologized on Twitter.
"After talking with my parents, I understand how my coat could have offended some people," Hamlin said. "It was never my intention to hurt and disrespect anyone, the coat is abstract art to me. It says 'Eternal' which I am eternally grateful for my savior! My beliefs and Relationship with God is not tied to symbolic images. I will learn from this and continue to walk in Love as I ALWAYS have."
