PITTSBURGH -- A misdemeanor simple assault charge against former Pitt Panthers and current Tennessee Titans defensive end Rashad Weaver was dropped this week, according to a report from The Tennessean.

The criminal case against the former Pitt star was closed and his trial, scheduled to begin early next week. Court records show that prosecutors have no longer decided to pursue the criminal charges.

The charge stems from an April 2021 incident outside a bar in Pittsburgh, when a woman told police that Weaver "grabbed her by the throat and pushed her to the ground, where she ultimately hit her head."

Weaver missed all of the 2019 season at Pitt with a knee injury, but returned to earn consensus All-American honors after a spectacular 2020 season. He was named an All-ACC First Teamer and Bednarik Award semifinalist after totaling 35 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in nine games.

He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Titans and after being limited to two games his rookie season with a fibula injury, tallied 27 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 16 games last year. He's in line for more playing time in 2023 with training camp approaching.
