SOUTH BEND -- Things were already going poorly for the Pitt Panthers, who already trailed No. 14 Notre Dame 37-0 in the third quarter when a starting safety went down with an injury.

Javon McIntyre went down as Pitt was defending a Fighting Irish drive that went down into the redzone before an eventual touchdown. He left the sideline after being attended to by trainers on the field. Those same trainers helped McIntyre back to the sideline while he favored his left leg.

McIntyre has started every game for the Panthers this season after a strong end to the regular season in 2022 and a promising training camp.

Pitt is confident in their remaining safeties, however. Donovan McMillon, a co-starter on the depth chart, is the next man up and he has played well this season. He's far and away the leading tackler on the team and will be counted on to lead the back end of the defense if McIntyre misses significant time. Stephon Hall came in on the ensuing drive to take some snaps as well.
