PITTSBURGH -- Future Pitt Panther Carlton Carrington and Team Melo, his AAU team based out of the greater Washington, D.C. area, have been competing all summer on the famed Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, one of the top AAU circuits in America. Team Melo recently secured a spot the EYBL Championships at Peach Jam in North Augusta, South Carolina and Carrington has been a major part of their success, so much so that he was named the EYBL's Breakout Player of the Session this past weekend. 

Carrington, a four-star combo guard from Baltimore, Maryland and St. Frances Academy who committed to Pitt one month ago, averaged 16.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game during the four-day long Kansas City Session last weekend. He also earned Second Team All-Session honors at the same event. 

Carrington and Team Melo will head to Peach Jam next week for four days of intense competition against some of the best high school basketball teams and players the country has to offer. Their first game is slated for 12:30 p.m. against Brad Beal Elite. Livestreams of the games will be available here when the games begin.

Stephen Thompson graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications and political science from Pitt in April 2022 after spending four years as a sports writer and editor at The Pitt News, the University of Pittsburgh's independent, student-run newspaper.  He primarily worked the Pitt men's basketball beat, and filled in on coverage of football, volleyball, softball, gymnastics and lacrosse, in addition to other sports as needed.
