PITTSBURGH -- The son of a former Pitt Panthers quarterback plays his high school football just down the street from campus at Central Catholic High School but they won't be able to keep him at home when he graduates next spring.

2024 wide receiver Peter Gonzalez, the son of former Pitt starter Pete Gonzalez, revealed a top three list this week and it included Penn State, Virginia Tech and Miami. He holds an offer from the Panthers but will no longer consider it.

On3, 247Sports and Rivals all consider Gonzalez a three-star prospect. He's ranked as high as the No. 28 player and No. 121 wide receiver in the class (247Sports).

He holds other offers from Syracuse, Cincinnati, Iowa State, West Virginia, Maryland, Wisconsin, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Akron, Marshall, UConn and Eastern Kentucky.

The elder Gonzalez was the starting quarterback for the Panthers in 1997, throwing for 2,657 yards and 30 touchdowns. He led Pitt to a come-from-behind, double-overtime victory in that season's Backyard Brawl, one of the most memorable games of the series.
