What We Know About Jordan Addison's Transfer Situation
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Panthers wide receiver Jordan Addison has officially appeared in the NCAA Transfer Portal after rumors sparked that he has "massive" NIL deals around the country.
The 2021 Biletnikoff Award winner is reportedly targeting USC, Texas and Alabama, but a return to Pitt isn't out of the question. That being said, rumors floating around say Addison is set to receive a nearly $3 million NIL deal if he heads to Southern California.
When it comes to tampering, the only knowledge we have are reports from Panthers Lair that Addison was in Los Angeles before his officially entered the portal.
ESPN's Pete Thamel believes fans aren't the only ones skeptical about tampering from USC. Reportedly, head coach Pat Narduzzi made phone calls to Trojans coach Lincoln Riley about his displeasure with how the move went down.
"It’s to the point where Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi multiple times called USC coach Lincoln Riley yesterday and had some pointed conversations with him to express his displeasure," Thamel wrote. "I really think we may look back on this as something in college football that’s a little bit of a pivot point."
Now, a return to the Panthers remains a possibility. Pitt ranks 9th in the first release of rankings this offseason, and many believe they could compete for another ACC Championship, and possibly more.
Their quarterback competition between Nick Patti and Kedon Slovis is heating up, and many within the locker room have preached how un-matched the culture on the team is.
All intangibles that are attractive to players.
Without Addison, the Panthers' receiving core is now highlighted by Jared Wayne, Konata Mumphfield and Jaylon Barden. All upperclassmen who have played important roles even with Addison on the roster.
The next week or so will be interesting to watch for Addison, who will likely land a major NIL deal anywhere he decides to go. And when it comes to tampering, this could be a turning point for the NCAA's grip on the new NIL circuit.
