WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — No. 1 Purdue basketball tips off against Penn State on Wednesday in a midweek matchup at Mackey Arena, marking the second game of the season between the two teams. 

The Boilermakers got the better of the Nittany Lions back on Jan. 8, earning a 76-63 win at the Palestra in Philadelphia. Wednesday's game in West Lafayette is the fourth meeting between Matt Painter and former assistant Micah Shrewsberry, who is in his second season at the helm for Penn State.

8:19 p.m. ET, FINAL — Purdue 80, Penn State 60

8:10 p.m. ET, UNDER 4 — Purdue leads 73-53 with 3:03 left to play. 

8:08 p.m. ET — With nine 3-pointers, Mason Gillis sets a single-game record for the most by a Purdue player in Mackey Arena. he's got 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting in 23 minutes on the floor. 

8:03 p.m. ET, UNDER 8 — Purdue leads 66-48 with 7:03 left. Penn State has started to chip away at what was a 26-point lead, but the Boilermakers are on cruise control now. 

7:55 p.m. ET — Purdue's season-high for 3-pointers in a game is 13, set in its road victory against Ohio State. The team has 12 so far with 10 minutes left to play. 

7:41 p.m. ET, UNDER 16 — Purdue leads Penn State 49-33 with 15:20 left to play. Ethan Morton knocked down his second 3-pointer of the game, but Mason Gillis continues to lead the way. He's now at 23 points for the game. 

7:35 p.m. ET — Penn State calls timeout as Mason Gillis continues to set the nets on fire tonight. He has a career-high 21 points and is 7-of-10 from the 3-point line. Purdue leads 44-31 with 17:54 still to play. 

7:32 p.m. ET — Mason Gillis starts the second half for Purdue. His shooting efforts sparked a 14-2 run that led to a double-digit lead for the Boilermakers in the first half. 

7:15 p.m. ET — Purdue goes into the locker room with a 35-29 lead over Penn State. Mason Gillis and his 3-point shooting was the biggest factor in the first half. He leads the team with 12 points, and Zach Edey is close behind with eight points and nine rebounds. 

7:07 p.m. ET — Purdue takes a timeout to talk things over with 50.4 seconds left before halftime. Penn State has brought the deficit to six points after making five of its last seven shots. 

7:01 p.m. ET, UNDER — Purdue leads Penn State 32-22 with 3:22 before halftime. 

6:57 p.m. ET — Mason Gillis came ready to light it up from the 3-point line. He now has four 3-pointer before halftime and leads Purdue with 12 points. He's 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. 

6:52 p.m. ET, UNDER 8 — Mason Gillis now with three 3-pointers in the first half, good for a team-high nine points as Purdue leads Penn State 26-15 with 7:21 left before the break. No turnovers for either team so far. 

6:46 p.m. ET — Purdue is on a 7-0 run and has a 21-13 lead over Penn State with 9:22 left in the first half. Zach Edey already with eight points and seven rebounds, including four on the offensive glass. 

6:44 p.m. ET — Mason Gillis gets another good look after Zach Edey is fouled on an offensive rebound, and this time he hits. The junior forward is 2-of-3 from deep in the last couple of possessions. 

6:42 p.m. ET — Mason Gillis drills a 3-pointer from the left corner. Purdue has gotten a pair of deep shots to fall already in the first half. He had another great look on the very next possession, but his attempt rattled out of the rim. 

6:38 p.m. ET, UNDER 16 — Zach Edey fouled just before the first media timeout but still gets the bucket to go. He'll shoot a free throw after the short break. Purdue and Penn State tied up 11-11 with 13:37 still to play before halftime. Michael Henn has three 3-pointers for the Nittany Lions. 

6:36 p.m. ET — Zach Edey with back-to-back baskets for Purdue, which was slow to start in the first couple of minutes. 

6:35 p.m. ET — Purdue is finally on the board after collecting a pair of offensive rebounds on its last possession. Caleb Furst gets an easy basket underneath the rim. 

6:33 p.m. ET — Jalen Pickett finds an open Michael Henn on the perimeter, and he hits a 3-pointer to give Penn State the first basket of the game. The Nittany Lions live and die at the 3-point line and get one to fall early. 

Tipoff — Zach Edey wins the tip, and we're off here at Mackey Arena. Purdue is unable to get a post touch for Edey on the opening possession, forcing Fletcher Loyer to fire a 3-pointer that falls short of the rim.
