Omaha Native Avante Dickerson is Heading to the Pacific Northwest

Omaha, Nebraska prep star heads to Oregon to mold his talent, joins a trending program

The speedy 6-foot defender Avante Dickerson announced Wednesday in his high school auditorium that he has made the careful decision to sign with the Oregon Ducks.

Dickerson, even considering he was once one of the SI99 members, had a huge amount of offers to consider from schools all up and down the country. At one point committed to Minnesota, the Midwestern defender just today flipped to the Ducks, joining an impressive 2021 Oregon class that's doing a decent job of following up an even juicer 2020 class.

Oregon currently has over 20 Verbal Commitments, and 4 in the SI99. Dickerson will be practicing against one of the top WR units in this cycle. SI All American broke down the top WR hauls of the 2021 class by team, and Oregon has since added another exceptional prospect in Dont'e Thorton out of Baltimore, Maryland. Here is the bottom line of his evaluation by SI AA.

Bottom Line: Dickerson has the length, quickness and awareness to impact multiple places in a college secondary. His ability to stop on a dime and redirect makes him a natural fit for modern age nickelback spots with the potential to line up as a field corner at the same rate.

With a huge frame and blazing speed, Dickerson has a ton of upside and will surely help the Duck's efforts guarding the vicious air attacks of the Pac-12. The Ducks allowed the 2nd most passing yards in Pac-12 in 2020. The Omaha native shows great two-way hip turn as well, which in our eyes open up the nickelback position as a possible landing spot.

As a local news outlet reported, as is the case with all recent recruiting efforts, Dickerson struggled in the selection process citing the realities of a world in a pandemic as another barrier to traverse when narrowing down his options.
