King-Size SI99 Athlete Tywone Malone Signs with Ole Miss
Tywone Malone is a talented interior defensive lineman from Oradell, New Jersey (Bergan Catholic). Over the course of his recruitment, Malone visited Virginia Tech, Penn State, and more recently took a trip to Florida State.
The last domino to fall, Texas A&M, was apparently in it to the very end, but powder blue proved too attractive to the big man.
In addition to his work on the diamond, digging up heaters as a right-handed first baseman, Malone has quite the knack for bull rushing. The 300-plus-pound defensive lineman is the type of athlete that can stretch out to nab hurried, off-target throws to first base, and he can defeat a down block and follow the pull to the ball carrier.
We think the newest Rebel is a good enough athlete to play in either a one-gap or two-gap system, pointing to his film and baseball skills as evidence. Malone is the stereotypical case of somebody who should not be able to move as well as he does, given his size.
Ole Miss just recently completed their hiring of Randall Joyner. Joyner had been coaching the defensive line at SMU prior to joining Kiffin's Rebel staff. The Rebels employ a multiple-front defensive scheme, usually with single gap responsibility. With new pieces like Malone and Joyner shaking up the defensive line room in Ole Miss, the ingredients are in place for a whole new bag of goods down in Oxford for the 2021 football season.
