Ponies Remain Solidly Near Top of National Rankings
DALLAS — SMU is still solid headed to the end of the 2023 schedule. The Mustangs remain ranked in the top five in United Soccer Coaches, Top Drawer Soccer, College Soccer News and NCAA RPI.
The Ponies are No. 4 in NCAA RPI and in the standings from United Soccer Coaches. Top Drawer Soccer kept SMU in the same position as Week 9 at No. 5. College Soccer News moved the Mustangs up one spot, The Mustangs were previously ranked No. 3 and now are No. 2.
Under the helm of coach Kevin Hudson, The Mustangs are 99-39-17. He is just one win away from earning his 100th victory.
The Mustangs are currently 10-1-2 overall this year, including seven shutouts, one against then-No. 25 Oral Roberts. SMU's two most recent games were back-to-back shutouts against FAU and Tulsa, with the Mustangs locking in scores of 3-0 and 2-0, respectively.
Senior Cole Johnson has been named the AAC Goalkeeper of the Week four times as a result of his efforts this season. Including these four, SMU has notched 14 total conference honors so far this season — four offensive player of the week awards, one defensive player of the week awards as well as eight honor roll nods.
The Mustangs boast a 15-1-2 overall record at Washburne Stadium since its inaugural season in 2022.
SMU continues American Athletic Conference play with a road game against UAB on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be live streamed on ESPN+. The Mustangs return home on Wednesday, Nov. 1 to take on Temple for Senior Night. kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
