Kingston On Clemson Series: "It's A Celebration Of Baseball"
After getting past the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Tuesday night, South Carolina's Baseball team is one of only two undefeated teams remaining in the SEC. Due to their season performance, they've become a mainstay in most major college baseball polls. This weekend, however, the game's overall talent level and emotions will see a massive uptick as the Gamecocks prepare to face off against their arch-rivals, the Clemson Tigers.
Mark Kingston has become quite familiar with the importance of this rivalry, getting ready to participate in his sixth series overall against the Tigers. Coach Kingston went more in-depth about the Palmetto Series on his call-in show on 107.5 The Game early Wednesday night and stated that this weekend would be a good opportunity to see how his players handle even stiffer competition compared to last weekend, a theme that aligns with his overall view of the series.
Kingston made sure to clearly state that he and the team both understood the importance of winning the series, and said that it's great for both programs and the entire state considering the attention it gets from the rest of college baseball, but made sure to emphasize that the result of this series doesn't make or break a season. In terms of injuries, Kingston stated that besides a couple of relievers still trying to get back in a groove from a prior injury and Gavin Casas dealing with a minor hamstring issue, everyone is ready to go this weekend.
The biggest storyline coming into this game will be Gamecock assistant Monte Lee returning to Clemson, where he was the head coach for the previous seven seasons. Mark Kingston said on his call-in show that while it is unique, he believed to think the focus will be primarily on the players and the game once they say play ball.
