South Carolina's baseball team is set for a three-game series in Starkville, MS, against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Gamecocks currently have the best record in baseball, earning a well-deserved top 10 ranking on Monday after sweeping a ranked Missouri Tigers squad this past weekend. While the 15-11 (0-6) Bulldogs haven't had the same level of success Gamecock baseball has, their home ballpark, Dudy Noble Field, is renowned as one of the best home-field advantages in all of college baseball. If South Carolina is to complete their 3rd straight SEC series sweep, they'll have to shine in the batters box and on the mound.

Matchup To Monitor

Mississippi State's pitching staff lacks overall firepower, as only four Bulldog arms have posted a sub-4.5 ERA to this point in the season. Gamecocks' bats have had little trouble lighting up the scoreboard this season, averaging ten runs a game throughout the entire season and 8.5 runs in SEC play. However, with South Carolina's electric start to the season, they've entered a territory where every team wants to give them their absolute best stuff on the mound. With the expectation of Mississippi State starting their aces each game of the series, the Gamecocks will have to sustain their explosive batting performance to take down the Tigers.

South Carolina Player Spotlight

  • P Noah Hall - ERA: 2.35 | W/L: 5-0 | WHIP: 0.97
  • P Jack Mahoney - ERA: 2.67 | W/L: 3-0 | WHIP: 1.22
  • 3B Ethan Petry - AVG: .446 | OB%: .495 | HR: 12
  • 1B Gavin Casas - AVG: .338 | OB%: .479 | HR: 14

Continued success from Gamecock aces, Hall and Mahoney, will be pivotal in keeping Mississippi State scoring to a minimum, but if the Bulldogs score runs in bulk, game-changing hitters Ethan Petry, and Gavin Casas, possess the ability to bring USC back from any deficit.

The series looks to be a competitive one, as South Carolina aims to improve their hot start with continued SEC dominance, while Mississippi State, feeling like their backs are against the proverbial wall, looks to secure their first SEC win.
