LOOK: Cole Messina Hits Double In Corner To Open Things Up Vs. LSU
The South Carolina Gamecocks are in the middle of a series with the No. 1 ranked LSU Tigers, which could propel Mark Kingston's squad to an even higher standing nationally if they could secure a series win over the Tigers. Carolina got the jump on LSU in Game one, winning the game 13-5 off the back of Ethan Petry who hit two home runs and drove in 8 runs.
In game two, LSU put starter Ty Floyd on the mound to try and quell the momentum South Carolina was carrying over from the night before, but after a relatively quiet first inning, the floodgates opened in the second inning, as the Gamecock batting lineup drew three walks and two hit-by-pitches, which lead to two runs being scored. Then, Cole Messina would come up to the plate, and on a dangerous 0-2, smoke one into the right field corner at founders park, giving South Carolina a 4-0 lead.
Since this sequence, the LSU Tigers have scored three runs of their own off two home runs to cut the Gamecocks' lead to one. It looks as if the final two games could depend on which team's bullpens perform the best, due to the fact that both teams have question marks as far as starting pitchers are concerned for game three.
