ICYMI: A'ja Wilson Wins ESPY For Best WNBA Player
Heading into the WNBA All-Star break, the Las Vegas Aces and A'ja Wilson are following up their 2022 championship run with another stellar season, as the Aces currently sit at the top of the WNBA standings with a 19-2 overall record, five more wins than the second place New York Liberty. Wilson, a South Carolina WBB legend, continues to display her stranglehold over the sport in 2023, as she's currently averaging 19.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season, ranking 6th and 5th in the WNBA, respectively.
Wilson has been considered one of the best players in the league since her arrival in 2018, as she's racked up five all-star nods and appeared in the WNBA Finals in the 2020 COVID-19 season. 2022, however, was the pinnacle of A'ja's career, as she won the WNBA MVP, WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, and her first-ever championship at the professional ranks.
Those accolades last season propelled Wilson to the top of her own sport and into the upper echelon of professional athletes across all American sports. That led to Wilson adding another award to her résumé on Wednesday night, as she won the ESPY for being the Best WNBA Player in 2022.
Wilson will play in the 2023 WNBA All-Star game on Saturday night live on ABC.
