Aliyah Boston Wins Second Consecutive WNBA Rookie of the Month Award
When South Carolina's Women's Basketball team takes the floor in November, the makeup of the Gamecocks will look completely different due to every starter either exhausting all eligibility or moving onto the WNBA. One of the players that walked out the door was former National Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Aliyah Boston, who was drafted by the Indiana Fever with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft back in April.
So far this season, Boston has already begun to make her mark on the league, as she's currently averaging 14.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game and recently became the first rookie since 2014 to be named a starter in the WNBA All-Star Game. One can imagine that with this kind of success, Boston is standing out amongst her rookie class, and the awards are quickly backing up this notion, as Aliyah was named the WNBA's Rookie of the Month for the second consecutive month on Wednesday afternoon.
Boston averaged 15.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in June, a stretch that included two impressive performances against the reigning WNBA Champions in the Las Vegas Aces, who are led by arguably the best player in the league and a former Gamecock herself in A'ja Wilson. In these two games, Boston averaged 19 points and 11.5 rebounds per game against a frontcourt that features two of the best women's basketball players of all time in A'ja Wilson and Candace Parker, indicating the sky-high potential Boston has in terms of becoming a potential all-time great in the entire sport.
