On Monday night in Salt Lake City, UT, former South Carolina basketball star and recent second-round pick for the Memphis Grizzlies, GG Jackson, got his first taste of action against NBA-caliber players in the Grizzlies' first contest of the NBA Summer League slate. In their matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers' Summer league team, GG came off the bench for the Grizzlies and, while giving full effort on both ends of the floor, went through a clear "feeling out" process in the first half.

As the game progressed, however, Jackson got noticeably more comfortable with the game's pace and displayed the offensive playmaking ability that Gamecock fans became quite familiar with this past Winter. Jackson made good decisions when attacking the paint area and wound up going on a personal 6-0 run before being subbed out in the 4th quarter, a run that cut Philadelphia's lead to three and helped propel Memphis to a 94-92 win when the final buzzer sounded.

Jackson finished the game with the most minutes off the bench (17), 10 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor, and two blocks on the defensive end, and his performance caught the attention of Memphis Grizzlies superstar and fellow South Carolina native Ja Morant, who shouted him out on Twitter.

It has to make Jackson feel good that Memphis' franchise player is already taking notice of his tantalizing potential just one game into the NBA Summer League slate. If Jackson can continue to develop and prove all the doubters wrong, and Morant can overcome his off-the-court issues, it could make for one of the greatest stories in the entire NBA and put the state of South Carolina squarely on the national map when it comes to the sport of basketball.
