MBB Analyst Believes South Carolina Would Match Up Well Vs. North Carolina In Tournament
While the SEC portion of the regular season for the South Carolina Gamecocks is just a little over halfway complete, fans are excited about the prospects of Lamont Paris' squad being involved in the NCAA Tournament. Multiple bracketologists have the Gamecocks anywhere from the 6-seed line to the 3-seed line and have differing opinions on where and who Carolina could play in the Round of 64.
Some projections have the Gamecocks in the same region as the North Carolina Tar Heels, which means the two old rivals could meet up in the Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight depending on how the dominoes fall, and one analyst believes that could spell trouble for the powder blue. Rob Dauster, the founder of the men's college basketball media company Field Of 68, was partaking in the network's "After Dark" show on Thursday night, and as he and two other analysts discussed which teams would match up well against UNC in the tournament, South Carolina came to mind.
"I think you need big guards if you are gonna be able to beat North Carolina; big physical guards. You gotta be tough inside, and you gotta be able to control the tempo. So [out of] the two teams that I wrote down [that could match up well against them in the tournament], one of them [is] South Carolina. I think South Carolina's gonna end up like on the 5-seed line, so that would be interesting if we see that [matchup]."
Ironically enough, since that show premiered on Youtube, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi considered one of the best at projecting the tournament field, bumped the Gamecocks to the 5-seed line in his updated bracket he posted on Friday morning. There's still a long way to go, but should this scenario indeed play out, it would be one of the most hyped games the program has played in several years.
