Several Members Of South Carolina's WBB Program Earn SEC Honors
When a team finishes the regular season as the only undefeated team in a Division One sport, it's safe to say that the individual accolades will be plentiful, and that was the case with South Carolina's women's basketball program on Tuesday morning. Dawn Staley was the recipient of the SEC Coach of the Year Award, marking the third consecutive season she's received the honor. One Gamecock was named a first-team All-SEC selection and subsequently the SEC's Defensive Player of the Year, and that was senior center Kamilla Cardoso, who finished the year averaging 14.1 points, 10 rebounds (T-5th in the SEC) and 2.68 blocks per game (SEC leader).
Moving down to second-team All-SEC honors, three Gamecocks were recognized in guards Raven Johnson and Te-Hina Paopao, along with forward Ashlyn Watkins. The last honor went to guard MiLaysia Fulwiley, who was selected to the conference's SEC All-Freshman team for her season performance in year one with the Gamecocks.
