Dawn Staley Named National Coach Of The Year By USBWA
The head coach of South Carolina's women's basketball program has received a national honor for what her team has accomplished this season.
When your team goes undefeated throughout the regular season and your conference tournament, particularly at the Power 6 level, it should come as no surprise that you'll receive national recognition. When you're a coach like Dawn Staley, who has "been there and done that" in women's college basketball, the shock factor is slim to none.
At this point, rewards like national coach of the year add to a singular bullet point on Staley's length hall-of-fame caliber résumé as a coach, and that's what she did on Monday afternoon, as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association named Dawn their Women's National Coach of the Year. It's the third straight year Staley has earned this specific reward and the fourth time in her career overall. The banquet honoring Dawn and other award winners will be held by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on April 17th.
