Gamecocks Finish Non-Con Strong with Win Over Florida A&M 94-62
Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks host their final non-conference game against Florida A&M this afternoon, hoping to continue their momentum heading into SEC play. Winning today's game would give the Gamecocks their 12th win of the season, which is extremely important for a couple of reasons. One, it surpasses last season's win total, and two, it makes it much more manageable for a possible postseason bid, led by Collin Murray-Boyles, they did just that, winning 94-62.
The Gamecocks had to fight off some rust with the break they had over Christmas early on in the game; however, over the last 10 minutes of the first half, South Carolina would go on a 30-2 run. They were led by Myles Stute, who had eleven in the first half, and freshman Morris Ugusuk, who had a career-high of nine early on.
In the second half of this game, the Gamecocks were seemingly on cruise control. While they didn't play the best in the half at times, they didn't do much wrong either. Collin Murray-Boyles did have a career-high day early in his gamecocks' career; he led the team in scoring and finished the game with 17 points, three rebounds, two steals, and an assist. The Gamecocks also top their season's highest-scoring game, ending the game with 94 points.
With the win, Lamont Paris and his team can celebrate after accomplishing more wins at this part of the season than last year. However, they will only be able to celebrate briefly as they look to host Mississippi State in their first conference game. There's a lot the Gamecocks can take from this first part of the season and a lot to grow on; now it's time to see just how far this team can go.
