Gamecocks To Play Virginia Tech Next Season
Lamont Paris and South Carolina's men's basketball staff are currently in the first phase of attempting to reconstruct both the Gamecocks' roster and their overall stature in the SEC's hierarchy in the sport.
One way for Paris and Co. to open doors for consideration from prospective transfers or high school prospects is by playing opponents that will draw bigger audiences both at an arena and on national television. Based on recent events, they're in the process of doing just that.
On Tuesday afternoon, CBS Sports Analyst and college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported that the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Virginia Tech Hokies will square off in Charlotte, NC, on November 10th this next season.
A couple of connections might have led to this matchup being formulated, as both Lamont and Hokies' head coach Mike Young coached against one another in the Southern Conference for three seasons between 2017 and 2020, likely building up a familiarity with one another in the process.
Young also holds strong ties to the Palmetto State, as he was the coach of the Wofford Terriers for 18 seasons, a school located both in Spartanburg, SC, and just an hour and a half away from the University of South Carolina.
