Gamecocks Blowout Florida Gators
South Carolina showed no signs of overlooking their opponent, the Florida Gators, as they carried over their spectacular performance against the LSU Tigers to Thursday night and won by 31 points. Zia Cooke and Brea Beal lead the offensive charge for the Gamecocks, combining for 36 points, 24 of those points coming from behind the arc.
It didn't take long for South Carolina to establish a foothold in this game, as the starting lineup was aggressive in terms of attacking the paint, utilizing Zia Cooke and Brea Beal's quickness to open up the low block.
This allowed Aliyah Boston and Victaria Saxton to establish better positioning for both good shots and rebounding opportunities, which they got in bunches as South Carolina secured fourteen rebounds off of eighteen chances in just the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Gamecocks put up their own version of a three-point barrage, as Zia and Brea each hit two three-point shots, which helped the Gamecocks extend their lead up to 32 points by the end of the half.
In the third quarter, the Gamecocks reverted to their tried and true offensive strategy, drive to the basket and success at getting shots up while also drawing a bevy of Gator fouls due to how often South Carolina was getting Florida's defense off-balance.
At times, South Carolina allowed Florida's offensive pace to speed them up, as they wound up turning over the basketball fifteen times in the contest, but the Gators couldn't take full advantage of their pace as they only shot 33.3 percent from the field. The Gamecocks do not have many stark challenges remaining on their schedule but are sure to be pushed harder by Ole Miss when they travel to Oxford this coming weekend.
